Hackney Proms are relaxed and informal Sunday performances where everyone is welcome, from babies to great-grandparents. Truly a win for all ages; you can expect some amazing instrumental playing, professional level whistling and singing in Zulu. Bring your kids, your mates and your dancing shoes for an afternoon of family fun. The vibe will be upbeat and the music uplifting!
Kabantu is a quintet who unravel new marriages of music from around the globe to celebrate the space where different cultures collaborate. "Kabantu" means "of the people" - stemming from the South African philosophy of Ubuntu - "I am what I am because of who we all are".
Kabantu are the winners of the Royal Over-Seas League Competition £10,000 Mixed Ensemble Prize and have performed at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, BBC Radio 3 In Tune, BBC Free Thinking Festival and TedX Talks. Their album "Of the People" was released in 2018 to critical acclaim, produced by Mercury-nominated Gerry Diver and supported by the Hattori Foundation and PRS Foundation's The Open Fund for Music Creators.
Hackney Proms is a registered charity formed in 2004 and is committed to bringing high-quality live music to the cultural life of Hackney.
