A one day event celebrating the mysterious and rising culture of the Japanese bamboo flute, Shakuhachi.

Bringing together players from around the world, we will be exploring the Japanese shakuhachi flute with a programme consisting of:

FILM SCREENING:

‘Future is Primitive’ (2016) by Katsuya Nonaka. A 50min documentary exploring 2 of the artists practices: shakuhachi and skateboarding. It raises questions about how both cultures have been boxed in by such widespread development and urbanisation in Japan.
